Jacket care-guide

Winter is a very demanding season, also for our favorite outdoor fashion pieces. Especially our jackets and parkas are subject to all types of rough weather. To make sure they will protect us against cold, wind, snow and rain for a very long time, we prepared a care guide with the most important tips.

Down jackets

A down jacket keeps warm mainly because of its volume, which is why it must not be compromised under any circumstances. If you want to be on the safe side bring your down jacket to a professional dry cleaner - stains are removed selectively with chemical additives and the filling is thus protected.

In addition to chemical dry cleaning, down jackets are now also suitable for gentle washing at a maximum of 30°C in the washing machine at home. Three things are essential to maintain the feather-volume:

  • Do not use fabric softener! This will cause the feathers to stick together and the volume will be gone. It is better to use a dedicated down detergent.
  • Add tennis balls to the drum. These will loosen the structure again and again during wash cycle and prevent possible sticking.
  • Put the jacket in the dryer at a low temperature. The filling will then puff up again.

Wool coats

The care of wool coats is somehow more complex.

Wool should be washed the least possible, which is why it’s best to hang your wool pieces out in the fresh air for a few days. This makes all smells evaporate and the coat remains in the original shape.

If the coat still shows stains, only wash the coat at home if the manufacturer’s labels clearly states this as a viable option. The coat can be washed either by hand or in the washing machine by activating the wool washing cycle.

Subsequently, a wool coat is always dried horizontally so to make sure the coat does not lose shape. It is best to spread out a towel on the floor, put the coat on it and air dry it gently in a few days.

Fake Fur Coats

When it comes to fake fur jackets, it is also recommended to clean them at home only if clearly stated on the manufacturer’s label. Fake Fur pieces are best washed cold (maximum 30°C) and inside out. This ensures that the fine hair structure is maintained in the best possible way.

After washing, the fake fur should be dried horizontally and in the fresh air.
